The Goddard School in Franconia/Springfield, VA transforms a former 20,000 sf laser tag center into a vibrant early childhood education destination within the Kingstowne community. Through the adaptive reuse of the existing pre-engineered metal building, the project introduces 15,000 sf of childcare space alongside a neighboring swim school and a 7,000 sf outdoor playground, creating a dynamic environment that supports learning, play, and development. Once a dark, windowless entertainment venue, the building was reimagined through the introduction of new glazing, finishes, and spatial reconfiguration to maximize daylighting and create bright, welcoming interiors. The childcare facility includes age-appropriate classrooms, flexible learning and play environments, and shared spaces designed to support both structured educational activities and special event celebrations. A custom interactive bookcase serves as a focal point within the lobby, encouraging exploration while creating a memorable first impression for children and families. Architecture, Incorporated provided exterior design for the entire building, as well as interior architecture, interior design, and select FF&E for the childcare portion.
