Massanutten Technical Center Breaks Ground on New CTE Campus

Monday, October 12, 2026

The new 165,000 sf Massanutten Technical Center (MTC) CTE campus has officially broken ground at Innovation Village in Rockingham Tech Park, marking a significant milestone for career and technical education in Rockingham County. Architecture, Incorporated is providing architecture and interior design for the new campus, which will expand educational opportunities and support workforce development throughout the region.

Designed to serve both high school and adult learners, the campus will provide modern technical education facilities that support hands-on instruction, industry-relevant skills, and community and industry training. Expanded programs and new learning environments will help prepare students for in-demand careers while strengthening the connection between education and the regional workforce.

Designed for Expanded Learning Opportunities
The new campus will feature a 165,000-square-foot main building housing high school programs and administrative functions. The facility will include single-story high-bay and low-bay laboratories alongside a two-story academic core, creating dedicated environments for technical instruction, classroom learning, and student support.

A separate continuing education building will accommodate adult education programs and administration, with a similar arrangement of laboratory space and two-story support areas. A central plant will serve both primary buildings and provide capacity to support the broader campus.

Additional facilities will support specialized programs and hands-on training, including an Animal Barn, an Exterior Maintenance Equipment Building, and an Exterior Supply Storage Building. Together, these spaces will accommodate a broad range of technical education and operational needs.

Investing in Students and the Community
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together education and community leaders to recognize the importance of the project and its long-term impact. RCPS Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett, RCPS School Board member Sara Horst, and MTC Director Kevin Hutton emphasized the campus as an investment in students, the local community, and the future of career and technical education.

By expanding existing programs and creating opportunities for additional offerings, the new campus will help students develop valuable technical skills, pursue industry-recognized credentials, and access new career pathways. The project also represents an investment in Rockingham County's workforce and economic future.
