Belle View Elementary School is a phased renovation to a school that has been a home to students since the 1950s. Added onto and renovated several times, the project has unique nuances due in part to the multiple floor levels as well as the tight site constraints. Nestled in an established community, the existing school features multiple outdoor nature stations set up for learning. The additions will be located as to not conflict with those stations. The current program will add about 19,000 sf to the 76,000 sf school. The additions include an administration area, library, and arts. The renovations will align the interior of the school closer to the program requirements for new elementary schools in Fairfax County.
Flexibility will be built into the plan by utilizing multiple itinerant space of varying sizes, as well as several resource and multi-purpose rooms. The heating and cooling system will be all new with ample outside air and individual controls for each space. The school will be further enhanced by all new lighting, electrical, voice and data. Lighting will feature state-of-the-art LED lights. Data will feature multiple closets allowing fiber to carry data into each classroom. At the end of the renovation, the school will provide a flexible learning environment into the future.
