reDefining Green

For many people, the idea of “Green” buildings brings up images of unattractive solar roof panels and giant wind turbines. While these are both green technologies (and both have grown far more attractive and productive in the last 10 years), the concept of environmental building is evolving into a system that is more rational and is resulting in buildings that are more appealing to both owners and clients.

Green buildings are high-performance machines for living and working, inspired by both nature and technology. Green buildings are “environmentally responsible, economically profitable, and healthy places to live and work” (1). Most importantly of all, green building allow us to live the lives we dream of today without denying future generations the same fundamental rights and resources.

Architecture, Inc. is committed to both the principles of green design and LEED certification. We have LEED accredited professionals in both our Reston and Fort Myers offices, are a member of both the USGBC and the Florida Green Building Coalition, and have embraced sustainable strategies since our founding, over 23 years ago.

Environmental Facts and Figures

• Buildings in the U.S. consume more than 30% of our total energy and 60% of our electricity every year.

• Toilets alone consume 5 billion gallons of fresh water every day.

• The typical construction project generates up to 2.5 lbs of waste for every square foot of floor space.

• People spend around 90% of their lives indoors.

• Indoor air quality related illness costs billions of dollars in productivity every year.
