History & Vision

In 1986, two Washington architects–William R. Drury and Carl R. Shaw, Jr.–joined forces to set up a collaborative architectural firm that would be committed to improving the quality of design. Having studied at the College of Architecture at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, a common commitment for excellence in design existed. The vision and values of these founding partners continue to sustain the success of Architecture, Inc. today. Since its founding, Architecture, Inc. has grown to become a national practice. Wide range of design experience and core value of client service has made Architecture, Inc. one of the most prominent firms in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
